We travelled to the stunning location of Plas Y Brenin for our member event in March 2018.
The centre provided us with a base for dinner and networking the night before. On the day we heard presentations from a mix of speakers on a variety of topics with plenty of time for more informal discussions over lunch.
Three members of the AIM Board were able to be with us, Andrew Gardiner from Acorn Venture (Chairman), Bob Edwards from Stubbers and Paul Reeve from The Foundry.
Loel Collins delivered an engaging talk about safe judgement and decision making in the outdoors and how this applies to instructors and outdoor providers. With his vast experience having worked in adventure education for over 30 years his inspirational talk highlighted the synergetic relationship between classic and naturalistic decision making processes and considered ways in which these essential judgement and decision making skills could be developed.
Honor Wilson-Fletcher, CEO of British Exploring Society (AIM Member) joined us to talk about the ambitious youth development programme with Jubilee Sailing Trust examining capabilities vs disabilities.
Providing a light hearted but important message was Ron Ruston, Partner from Kennedy’s Law who discussed the impact of GDPR and how the changes will impact on Members’ and their business activities.
A regular part of the member days is to give an update on legal cases with special interest in those that have a liability angle either Employer’s Liability or Public Liability focus. Sophia Reed previously from BLM has now joined AIM as Mutual Manager and continued to present this section of the day.
The day’s final update came from AIM’s industry specialist, James Willis, on AIM’s growth, claims trends and lessons learned and Ralph Doe, Account Executive to give details of the new Motor scheme available to members.
