With the legendary Tour De France starting this weekend we thought we’d profile one of our members who offer cycling as part of their activities and to highlight some of the great cycling events out there.
AIM Member, Open Adventure, was set up in 2004 by owner James Thurlow in reaction to a lack of adventure sports events in the north west. AIM has been providing liability and property cover for Open Adventure since 2011, who organise and run events, most are adventure races involving at the core mountain biking and running, over a period of hours and days. Special stages including orienteering and abseiling feature in the longer events.
Open Adventure now incorporates Open Cycling who organise and run cycling sportives notably the two mentioned here.
Coast to Coast in a Day is an iconic route cycled by hundreds of people every year, usually over 4 or 5 days. But how about doing it in just 1 day?
A stunning 150 mile with 4500m of ascent road ride from the mountainous Western Lake District, through the Yorkshire Dales, across the flat Vale of York and finally the Northern Valleys of the North York Moors, finishing by the sea in Whitby.
This popular event has already taken place in June this year, and entries for next year’s event has already opened, which will be held on 29th June 2019.
Wales in a Day is a challenging 185 mile route which will take riders from the historic town of Caernarfon in North Wales, to Chepstow, taking in the Llanberis and Gospel Pass. With beautiful Welsh countryside between Snowdonia, the Cambrian and Black Mountains – not the easiest ride on the calendar but you will be spoilt for views on the entire journey. Still to take place this year, you can join in on 21st July 2018.
If you’ve been bitten by the cycling bug then why not consider entering for one of these varied and challenging events.
