Supporting Learning Outside the Classroom

The Activities Industry Mutual works closely with many organisations and as a result of these relationships has been informed of the following information which may be of interest to those of you who work closely with schools.

Following a meeting with the School Travel Forum, Bob Russell MP has tabled an Early Day Motion (Number 2111) in the Westminster Parliament supporting Learning Outside the Classroom (LOtC) and the Quality Badge.

Early Day Motions are a means by which Members of Parliament can show their support for a topic by signing them. The more that sign, the more influence it will have and the more opportunity providers have to lobby for their aims. Information that the Mutual has received indicates that it has already received cross party support.

The purpose is to apply pressure on the government to support the whole concept of LOtC. It has been worded so the greatest possible support from the wider LOtC and school communities to also lobby for this.

The School Travel Forum (STF) are asking all colleagues to write to local MP's asking them to support the Early Day Motion, or alternatively for them to write to the Minister on this topic. This will support the current lobbying exercises and will work to the benefit of all who believe in LOtC.

If you are interested in showing your support we have attached a letter you can easily adapt and use.

As members of the Mutual we endeavour to provide you with up to date information on your industry and those issues which can affect it.
